Unusual Locations for Valentine's Day - Movie Style! (2021) - Part 1

A day to celebrate the love in your life! Be it your spouse, your lover, your parents, your siblings, or your friends! A place to celebrate - is what you need. And these places which you have seen on the big screen from days of yore to the current day, are some stunning destinations on the face of this planet. This year, we focus on locations within India - from nature to architecture to temples - a variety of destinations where you can go celebrate the magic of love in your life.

1. Kashmir

Jannat (Heaven) on Earth – What better place to start the "Love"ly journey than the pristine valley surrounded by Pir Panjal Mountains - Kashmir
 

Bhaderwah: Remember the haunting song "Aaja re O Mere Dilbar Aaja" and those cherubic faces of Farooque Shaikh and Poonam Dhillon in the movie Noorie? Exactly! Go call out to your Dilbar in this meadow land where the River Neeru snakes through Bhaderwah village (now known as, not surprisingly - the Noorie village!)

Verinag Gardens: The famous poet Abul Fazl was enamoured by this embankment as much as you would be when you visit it with your loved ones. You would have seen this Mughal architectured garden emerging from a small pool in many a Hindi movie in the days of Shammiy Kapoor and more. Particularly this garden was well-captured by director Subodh Mukherjee in his famous movie Junglee for the song "Mere yaar shabba khair" picturized on Shammi Kapoor and debutant Saira Banu.

Baisaran MeadowsTermed as Mini Switzerland Of India, the green carpet with dark meadows near Pahalgam formed the background for the final football match in the the Hindi movie Sikandar which is a tale of love for one's country’s. Well... you can relive that love with your love here at Baisaran

Doodhpathri: This valley is set at an altitude of 8,900 feet above sea level where the river water gushes like milk into the lap of a meadow shaped into a bowl giving the place its name. The beautiful vista was showcased on-screen in the movie Raazi in the song “Dilbaro”. A place well worth the visit!

2. Ladakh

Ladakh
Land Of High Passes: Ladakh, recently carved into an Union Territory of India is known for its massive raw scale and rightly known as the land of high passes. A popular destination for adventurous bikers and rallies, this is also equally popular with love-birds celebrating their honeymoon, anniversaries and of-course Valentine's Days! Ladakh is a personal favourite for us at Filmapia.
 

Alchi Village: This is set against the Alchi Monastery on the banks of the Indus River. This monastery offers stunning views of the surroundings of the Gompa. This formed the background in the Hindi movie Tashan.

Thiksey Gompa: A very prominent monastery known for its massive structure and vivid colours presents a magnificent lure to visitors and viewers. Set at the backdrop of Zanskar range, the beauty of this place and presented equally beatifully by the great Mani Ratnam in his Hindi movie "Dil Se" for the song “Saatrangi Re".

Lamayuru Moonland: Take your Love to the Moon - this is probably the only place on the planet which takes you to the Moon with its lunaresque landscape. House to one of the oldest monasteries in the region this, this has been the backdrop for many a movie like "Race 3".

3. Himachal Pradesh

Unforgettable Himachal : Himachal Pradesh, as it straddles between the Himalayas and the plains, offers a variety of stunning views and experiences. From snow to meandering rivers to lush forests to a vibrant culture of food and festivals, Himachal Pradesh is truly unforgettable.
 

Chitkul Village - Mathi Temple: At the Indo-Tibetan road border, this village is a sight for the eyes, with the snowclad mountains on one side and apple orchards and wooden houses on the other! Situatied in the Baspa Valley, the traditional temple was aplty captured on-screen by Director Imtiaz Ali in the Hindi Movie "Love Aaj Kal 2" for the song "Mehrama".

Dalhousie- Kaalatop: Kaalatop embodies the beauty of Himachal Pradesh. Also known as Khajjar, this place is popular with tourists and Film shoots. There's a quaint guesthouse used in the movie "Lootera" which you might want to visit or stay at!

Kullu- Naggar- Naggar castle, Rohtang Pass: The gurgling River Beas fils the hills of this mystic region covered with the Deodar trees is the perfect setting for age-old monuments like the Naggar Castle and nearby temples. The hugely popular movie "Jab We Met" shot the famous song “Yeh Ishq Hai Ye” here at this location. Ishq isn't too far when you are here!

4. Sikkim

The Land Of Cardamom: Nestled within the eye range of the highest peak in India the state of Sikkim is serene with its subtropical and alpine climates and rich biodiversity.
 

Pelling: Architected between the Himalayas and the Kanchenjunga range nestled with lush greenery this scenic town offers mind-blowing eye turners. National awardee movie Anuranan set its eye on the beauty of this place in many of its scenes.
